Are there sharks on South Padre Island?

A: The short answer is shark attacks in South Padre are extremely rare. Enjoy beach life as you would without fear, or worry.


Are there Jellyfish in South Padre?

A: Portuguese Man O’ War often wash up on the beaches in South Padre. Local officials caution visitors to avoid contact with these animals as their tentacles can sting you. It is important to note that these animals are not conscious and are not actively trying to sting you. If you see one on the beach, avoid it. If you see one in the water swim away from it.


Is alcohol allowed on South Padre Beaches?

A: Yes, as long as alcohol is not contained in glass bottles. Cans are permitted on South Padre beaches.


Can you swim in South Padre Island?

A: Yes, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico can be a pleasant experience but beachgoers must exercise caution and common sense when swimming alone, or in groups. Lifeguards may not be present in certain areas.
